A family trade. Since 1997.

Marcello Family Cement Work has poured concrete across Philadelphia for nearly thirty years, a father-and-son operation that quotes the work, does the work, and stands behind it.

Mid-pour · Northeast Philadelphia.

The story

Concrete passed down, trowel to trowel.

Marcello Family Cement Work was founded in 1997 by Marcello and his father, two tradesmen who’d already been working concrete in Philadelphia for years. The work was passed father to son the way it’s always been in this trade: by handing over a trowel and showing how it’s done.

Marcello and his father work most jobs themselves, pouring driveways, sidewalks, steps, and patios across the city and the surrounding counties. The two of them, on the job. The same in-house crew behind them. The same equipment they own and run themselves.

Family business means a few things in this trade. It means the people who give you the quote are the people who do the work. It means the truck pulling up to your house has the same name on it as the answering machine. It means we don’t have a sales team, a project manager, or a customer-service script. You’ll talk to Marcello, and a good chunk of the time, that’s the same person standing in your driveway with a screed in his hand a week later.

It also means we care, in a way that’s hard to fake. The work has our family name on it. We don’t hand it off to a sub. We don’t disappear after the deposit. We don’t cut corners hoping nobody notices. Family pride is hard-earned and harder to lose.

The team

Two names on the truck. Both on most jobs.

Together on the job, since 1997.

Marcello (the son)

Owner and primary operator. Marcello quotes the work, runs the crew, and pours alongside his father on most jobs. He'll meet you in the driveway, on the phone, and in your inbox, same person from first call through final cleanup. No project-manager handoff. No sub-contracted second team. The name on the truck is the name on the email.

His father

The tradesman who taught Marcello the craft. Decades pouring concrete in Philadelphia, and he's still on most jobs, pouring, leveling, finishing. The work he does now looks like the work he did twenty years ago, because the right way to lay concrete hasn't changed.

How we work

What you can count on, every job.

We answer the phone.

No call center. No answering service. You call, we pick up, or we call back the same day. Most days it’s Marcello himself on the line.

We show up when we said we would.

If we say Tuesday morning, we’re there Tuesday morning. If something has to shift, you hear from us before the start time, not after.

We leave it cleaner than we found it.

Sweep the sidewalk. Hose down the drive. Haul the rubble. The day we leave, the only sign we were there is the new concrete.

We’re honest about what you need.

If a slab can be patched instead of replaced, we’ll say so. If the job is outside what we do best, we’ll point you to someone who can.

We treat your home like our own.

Care taken to keep the rest of your property clean while we work. Care with the landscaping. Respect for the people inside the house. We get it.

The owner does the work.

Marcello and his father are on most jobs themselves. No project-manager handoff after the contract is signed. The hands that pour the concrete are the hands you shook.

“Marcello, his Dad & his team did an excellent job resurfacing my textured patio wall and some brick pointing. They were here when they said they'd be, kept me informed as the job progressed and when they were finished they cleaned up so well the only evidence of them being here is a brand new wall! I couldn't be happier with the results, the wall is a work of art – skills you just don't see anymore. If you need cement work do not hesitate to call Marcello Family Cement Work”

“A short story…we needed someone who could do an emergency sidewalk repair in center city Philadelphia during the holidays! Impossible? Well, Marcello made it possible. He called back when he said he was going to call back. He showed up exactly when he said he'd show up. He arrived at our center city address, got out of his truck and fixed the problem. He really cared about getting it right. And…all that happened for a reasonable price. Personable, honest, man-of-his word. He's been added to my short list of trusted Philly vendors.”
